Day 1: Johannesburg – Arrival
Your Mobile Camping Safari has begun! From Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport, you will take a complementary airport shuttle onward to your comfortable accommodation located 20 minutes away. Your stay will be on a bed and breakfast basis for one night (dinner for own account). In the evening you will meet your tour guide, who will give you information about your trip and answer any questions you may have.
Day 2: Johannesburg – Northern Tuli Block (Botswana)
There will be an early start today. After breakfast you will be transferred from Johannesburg northwards into the Limpopo region. En route you will change the vehicle from a minibus to a fully equipped 4x4 Toyota Landcruiser which has comfortable seating, windows for game viewing and a sound system. Your journey will take you through Pretoria and Potgietersrus into Botswana via the Platjan Border Post.
You’ll be staying in chalet accommodation in a beautiful area called the Tuli Block. This thin strip of land in the southeast of Botswana, borders Zimbabwe to the north and South Africa to the south. The land in the extreme east has a number of game reserves where huge herds of Elephant and hundreds of colourful birds can be seen. Depending on time of arrival at camp, there will be a game drive either this evening or early tomorrow morning. Enjoy a tasty evening meal around the fire prepared by your guide.
Day 3: Northern Tuli Block – Khama Rhino Sanctuary
Your destination for the day is the Khama Rhino Sanctuary. The Khama Rhino Sanctuary Trust was established in 1991 as a community based wildlife project. The aim of the sanctuary is to assist in saving the vanishing White Rhino, restore an area previously teeming with wildlife to its natural state, as well as provide economic benefits to the local Batswana people through tourism and the sustainable use of natural resources.
You’ll explore the sanctuary on a game drive in the afternoon in search of White Rhinos. On your return to camp you can spend time at the pool and bar or head off for a hot shower before the evening meal around the camp fire. Later you’ll retire to your dome tent which is mosquito proofed for your comfort.
Day 4: Khama Rhino Sanctuary – Makgadikgadi Pans
Today, there is a long day of driving as you leave the Khama Rhino Sanctuary and head for the Makgadikgadi Pans. Once you have arrived you can stretch your legs and take in the vast open, uninhabited spaces and endless blue skies of the Makgadikgadi, the silence in this arid place is an unforgettable experience. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure in camp where you can relax at the pool and bar or have a siesta before dinner.
Day 5: Makgadikgadi Pans - Maun - Okavango Delta
After breakfast you leave the awesome Makgadikgadi Pans and set off for Maun, which is the gateway to the Okavango Delta. At Maun you will have the opportunity to stock up on supplies and also take an optional scenic flight over the Okavango Delta, which will give you a spectacular perspective of the beautiful waterways below. You can spend time in town and have dinner (own account) or return to camp for a relaxed evening.
Day 6: Maun – KhwaiRiver
Following breakfast there is a short drive from Maun to the Mokoro station. From this point, you board your mokoro and float through the lush vegetation of the Okavango Delta, discovering a variety of birds and wildlife along the way. The Okavango Delta is unique in the world because it flows into the Kalahari Desert without reaching the coast.
Afterwards, you make your way to the bush camp which is situated on a private concession in the Khwai River area. This concession lies between Moremi and Chobe and this evening, you will have the opportunity to spot a variety of nocturnal animals on a night game drive. You’ll return to camp for dinner and later retire for the night with the sounds of this watery wilderness to lull you to sleep.
Day 7: Khwai River
Prepare for an exciting day in the Delta! You’ll spend time game driving in the Khwai area in an open 4x4 vehicle on morning and afternoon adventures. This region is well known for its prolific game viewing opportunities and large concentrations of mammals. You could see many different types of animals during just one game drive.
This area is a year round attraction for wildlife and of course, an impressive range of predators too. The exceptional location of Khwai makes it a regular host for Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Cheetah and Wild Dogs. Birdlife is abundant with great sightings of wildfowl and raptors. At the end of the day you can enjoy a campfire dinner and swop stories about your experiences.
Day 8: Khwai River - Moremi Game Reserve
After breakfast you move on from the Khwai River and head for the magnificent Moremi Game Reserve. This beautiful part of Africa is renowned for its scenic diversity and unprecedented concentrations of wildlife. Moremi is also one of the only places in Botswana where you can see the Big Five – Elephant, Lion, Buffalo, Rhino and Leopard. You’ll have a full day to explore this pristine region. Look forward to a delicious dinner after another exciting day in a true African wilderness.
Day 9 & 10: Khwai River – Chobe National Park
You will need to rise early today as you have a great journey ahead of you! You’ll transit through premier game viewing reserves and National Parks on your way to Kasane. As you travel through Moremi, Savuti and Chobe, keep a look out for the wildlife that makes this area so famous. You will reach the camping area in the late afternoon in time for a refreshing swim, sundowners and then dinner.
You have an early start the next morning for a game drive in search of Africa’s Big Five! Return for breakfast and leisure time. Later you’ll enjoy a relaxing sunset cruise on the Chobe River. From the decks you can watch Elephants, Hippos, Lions, Crocodiles, birds and much more without the need for binoculars and you’ll be close enough for excellent photographs. Later, you’ll return to camp for dinner around the log fire.
Day 11: Chobe National Park - Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)
This is your final day in Botswana. This morning after breakfast, you depart on the short drive to the border where you enter Zimbabwe, home to the spectacular Victoria Falls and one of the 7 wonders of the world. You’ll spend the next 2 nights in chalet accommodation which has a pool and bar.
Victoria Falls is an amazing destination and there is plenty to see and do. You have the rest of the day to explore at leisure and partake in various activities, from curio shopping and classic High Tea to water based adventures and bungee jumping off the bridge – the list is long and exciting.
Day 12: Victoria Falls
After breakfast you’ll explore the Victoria Falls on a guided walk. You’ll have the afternoon free to enjoy the chalet facilities and a range of optional activities. The following optional activities are on offer and assistance will be given with reservations: 13 minutes and 25 minutes helicopter flip over the Victoria Falls, boma dinner, sunset cruise on the Zambezi River, half day Elephant-back Safari, Elephant Interaction with breakfast or lunch, half day Lion Walk or Lion Interaction, Wildlife Conservation and Awareness Safari, half day or full day canoeing, half day or full day river rafting, Bungee Jump, Flying Fox / Zip Line, Gorge Swing.
Day 13: Victoria Falls – Johannesburg
This is the final day of your Botswana Mobile Camping Safari. There will be time for breakfast before you say your goodbyes.
You will be transferred to the Victoria Falls Airport where you’ll catch your flight to Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport.
